This is a hard review to write because this is one of those books that just aren't going to be for everyone. This is a book for those who have dark humor, who jokes at inappropriate times, and who knows what it's like to have a serious inner monologue. I'm going into detail here because I want to explain why this book is absolutely a 5-star for me. It won't be for everyone. The main character is completely mentally shattered but strong.
Let me start with this book is dark, do not let the cover fool you. Do not let anything fool you, it's DARK. The whole series does start with graphic gang rape, just for example. Dell is a sex slave in a very dark fantasy world. It gave me the vibes of "The Handmade's Tale" just to give you an idea. That happens to be one of my favorite shows, so here we are. Dell has been with her captors since she was 4 and doesn't really have anyone she can trust or love or anything- but her vagina. And yes, she has conversations with her vagina. It's quirky, it's funny but most of all it actually makes sense with her character. Imagine being in a world where anyone is allowed to have sex with you at any time because of your vagina, yeah you would probably start thinking of it as its own person.
I digress from that.
She accidentally says some words and boom four Fae Gods are now at her command... well sorta. There is defiantly a slow burn. Angst. At first, they seemed a bit standoffish and now, they just have a lot going on. I think I'm forever in love with the banter here between them all. They have my heart and I want to know more about them. I loved Dell and her attitude, even though she had beat and broken on many occasions she still has a way of looking at her surroundings and even laughing at times. She knows what she goes through is horrible and dark but she makes the best of it anyway.
